The Gift of Prayer

Coming to Jesus in prayer is like coming to an old friend to catch up over a cup of tea. He is still. Never in a hurry, and understands every word that falls from our very lips. In fact He knows our intentions even before they leave our mouthes in prayer. What a friend we have in Jesus.

Just as with an old friend, I give the Lord my very best, welcoming Him with hospitality. Sometimes that means lighting a candle to usher in His presence and turning on my ever-evolving worship playlist. Sometimes it means getting dressed in my Sunday Best, although not necessarily exclusively on Sundays, and just offering myself as presentable, fully present and attentive to what He has to say, the same as in Sunday mass/ service.

I’m always fully myself when I come to the Lord in these moments, expressing things just as I mean them, no matter how harsh, bitter or beautiful. I know the Lord , and He has seen it all. I am reminded of the words of Corrie Ten Boom in her novel The Hiding Place: “There is not pit so deep that Christ’s love is not deeper still.”It really all depends on how deep I am willing to allow Him to go. Friend, are we allowing Christ into the ugly, free of inhibitions, trusting in His love and kindness?

I want to invite you into a challenge to meet with Jesus more often. Perhaps prayer is not your strong suit and you require a little more inspiration or tools that support your prayer life. I don’t blame you, and you are not alone. I want to invite you to purchase a prayer journal designed by my friends at The Christian Journal CO. It is modern, chic, and full of prompts to help you dive deeper in your walk with Jesus during those special quiet times that you set aside just for He and you.

This is a purchase you can rest assured will further the kingdom of God, as a portion of your funds will be donated to the Tearfund, which is a Christian charity that works through local churches and organizations to help tackle poverty in 50 of the world’s poorest countries. I’m excited to be joining the challenge with you. I’ve even got my highlighters and vintage colored gel pens to keep things interesting and organized!
